Clinical Hypnosis is a natural, dream-like state of focused internal attention and deep relaxation. I like to compare it to the space in between asleep and awake. There is no need to be nervous, often my patients want to stay in this space, feeling peaceful and blissed out once the work is done.
It is completely safe, and you are in control the whole time. You are aware of your surroundings and will remember the experience. You will always come out of hypnosis.
We naturally drift in and out of different levels of hypnosis daily, when driving and forgetting the last few kilometres, getting lost in reading, or reacting emotionally to a movie. Because the mind doesn’t recognise the difference between reality and imagination in these types of circumstances, we react physically to the experience.
Even scrolling through social media can be considered a mild hypnotic state.
Clinical hypnotherapy uses this focused state intentionally, helping you access the subconscious mind—the part of you that holds your beliefs, habits, and emotional responses that make up your moral values and identity. This is where lasting change happens.
Unlike stage or street hypnosis, which are designed for entertainment and work only temporarily, clinical hypnosis is a neuroscience-based therapy. It’s real, evidence-based, and incredibly effective in helping you shift outdated mental and emotional programs that no longer serve you well.
Conscious vs. Subconscious:
This is just a working model of the two to help understand the difference;
The conscious mind is our current state of awareness and analyses incoming information. It is the decision maker, it learns, creates logic and critical analysis.
The conscious mind can only process around 7 bits of information at any given moment. All your sensory perception and what is going on around you. It ignores unnecessary information to avoid overwhelm. It consists of only around 10% of your mental capacity.
Traditional talk therapies communicate only with this conscious layer. While awareness is important, it’s not enough to create long-term change.
The subconscious mind, on the other hand, governs the other 90% of your processing. It stores all your memories, emotions, imagination, creativity and makes up your moral values and core beliefs, even those you’re not consciously aware of. The subconscious is processing hundreds of thousands of bits of information at any given moment. It runs your autonomic functions like heartbeat, breathing, and nervous system regulation. It is your bodies autopilot.
The subconscious main priority is to keep you healthy, happy and safe. What it does lack is logic and time constraint. Therefore, something that may have happened long ago is still held onto as a reminder, even though the threat or experience has long passed. It’s like a protection mechanism to not allow this to happen again, just like it was yesterday. In a lot of cases People are unaware of where their issues have stemmed from. Other times people were too young to even recognise the reality of the situation, due to lack of emotional maturity.
Therefore 90% of your decisions are made from your emotions from past experiences where they are stored in your subconscious. If there is ever conflict between logic (conscious mind) and emotion (subconscious mind) emotion always wins. That’s why you know you shouldn’t be or don’t want to be behaving the way you do but you do it anyway.
With hypnosis, the conscious mind is gently bypassed, allowing direct communication with the subconscious. This makes it possible to:
- Reprogram limiting beliefs and behaviours
- Release unwanted emotional triggers
- Change perceptions around past events
- Break free from self-sabotage and unhealthy patterns
- Access the internal resources needed for healing and growth
Hypnotherapy is fast, effective, and often works in one to three sessions. It can assist with:
- Anxiety, PTSD and stress relief
- Trauma and emotional healing
- Chronic pain and symptom management
- Addictions and habit change (smoking, drug abuse, alcohol, etc.)
- Confidence, motivation, and performance
- Self-worth and self-love
- Sleep and nervous system regulation
- Weight control
- Money blockages
Pretty much anything negative you are holding onto or holding you back.
Why Choose Hypnosis Over Traditional Therapy
Traditional therapies often involve retelling your story and revisiting trauma.
In my opinion this is the worst thing you can do to a person and expect them to heal. Making them relive events just anchors the trauma in. Clinical hypnotherapy can be content free; you don’t have to talk through the issue. The transformation happens internally while you are guided gently and safely through the process.
Why rely on external tools like medication, coping strategies, and other band aid bullshit? which can mask symptoms but rarely address the causes. Meditation is great…in the moment but doesn’t resolve what’s causing the negative symptoms.
It’s not my place to tell you how to think or feel- all the resources and answers you need are already within you.
Hypnosis simply helps you access and realise them.
Call it intuition, sixth sense, gut feeling, little voice inside your head- it’s all the same thing, your subconscious letting you know what’s best for you.
It’s time to let go. If not now, when?
“Time does not heal all wounds; it just gives them space to sink into the subconscious, where they will continue to impact your emotions and behaviour. What heals is going inward, loving yourself, accepting yourself, listening to your needs, addressing your attachments and emotional history, learning how to let go and following your intuition” Yung Pueblo
